Make a dream*

I am currently looking for something which can make me dream at night. I searched online and I got these funny results:

-Eat before you go to bed (oh really??)
-Start a dream journal, pay more attentions on your dreams (already doing that and it WORKS!)
-Eat nutmeg as it stimulates brain cells (gonna try that...)
-Do reality checks frequently during the day (need to remind myself to do it more..)
-Sleep without blankets (gonna be cold!)
-Stop taking sleeping pills and smoking weed, as they affect REM sleep, the stage where you will dream when sleeping (not having these)
-Eat more cheese. Cheese contains minerals and amino acids that aid sleep and thus may contribute to REM sleep and dreaming. (oh...will try!)
-Think really hard about what you want to dream about and keep that image in your head before you fall asleep (It should work, but anyway I will try again~)

CHEESEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

This is a lovely relaxing song..with a romantic story behind..however, the soft tone and fluid melody will probably help you to get in sleep, don't know if it can make you dream though!

Dreamweaving Inception

A scene from Inception.
Source: Global Times  [23:10 September 01 2010]

"The significance of dreams to my creative process, of which Inception the film explores most clearly, is always freeing of the mind from logic and allowing your brain to make interesting connections between things, elements in your life,"

The scriptwriter/producer/director of Inception, Christopher Nolan spoke on Saturday morning about his writing style and shooting process during the film. And I always want to discover more about the idea of this film....Here are some quotes from Nolan that I wanted to share.

"It is an extraordinary experience. Once you realize you are dreaming, you can attempt to control or change your dream. This is the skill my characters have in the film, something I actually experienced in my dreams."

He added that the message Inception delivers is that dreams are a valid form of reality. He said that the idea of the whole film is that there are things beyond everyday life and the world we exist in might be more complicated than what we see.

From left to right: Christopher Nolan, Ellen Page, Leonardo DiCaprio.
There are many many things beyond dreams and the reality, as Nolan said, dreams help us to be more creative, and that we should use dreams as an advantage, to do something different; allow our 'dreams' come true!

Can I actually design something to reveal the 'extraordinary experience'?

Lucid Dreaming lol

Lucid Dreaming is simply knowing that you are dreaming when you are dreaming. You may ask, what’s the big deal? Well, when you know you’re in a dream, you can manipulate the dream — you can do anything you want!

I am currently trying and practicing to experience lucid dreaming, by doing the reality checks and recalling dreams...

Wish me good luck!!!!

Dream Survey!!!!

Tell me about your dreams...

I got interesting answers about dreams!:

"No can't control my dreams. I guess when I worry so much about things then it will come up in my dream."

"I certainly cannot change my dreams, though at times when I'm thinking a particular person or matter too intensely, he/she/it will unconscious enter my subconscious. And at times, things or places or people that appear in my dreams are just purely random. I once dreamed about Power Rangers killing Jesus, so there you go... it's as surreal and random as you can get!"

"sometimes i can control my actions in my dreams. sometimes i am only a spectator. most of the time, i think my dreams relate to what i've been thinking about(i think a lot, about a lot of different things)."

"Could be according to the sub-conscious theory bla bla bla...
I tried to uncover myself my keep concentrating on finding the hidden self, however failed, I felt I could understand myself better if I could take the advantage to control the dream."

And more and more results....
I like the survey. It helped me to discover more about the topic from different people; it is arousing to know their opinions about this personal event.~

???

How to make dreams come true?
How to present a blurry expression in solid?
How to see a dream clearly in details?

How to create illusions?
How to capture dreams?
How to dream the ideal dreams?

How to play with time?
How to stop time?
How to break the rude of time? Make it slower? Make it quicker?

A dreamcatcher. Just a tradition.

Time = Maths

If you can figure out the maths behind time, you can control time.

I have a dream...

How about you?

Everyone has dreams. Dreams are similar with ambitions, they mean things that people want to do or they want to achieve. I don't just have a dream, I have dreams. But it is important to not to make 'dreams' become 'dreams'

The other definition of dream is the images and scenes that you see and hear when you are sleeping. They are unreal and surrealistic; they don't last long, just until you get up. So don't make your ambitions become dreams...make it, practice it, make your dreams come true!

Rmb, you dream is in your hands!

Operation Love

A story about a fresh uni graduated boy. One day he is going to a wedding party of his best friend (in fact he likes this girl all along), also to offer a speech. In the party, several slides of photos are being shown to all the guests to introduce the love story behind the couple. He feels really sad and guilty when he sees these photos as he didn't grasp all the chances to say what he wanted to say to the girl in the bottom of his heart. The photos remind him about the past, how he screwed up with the girl and how bad he did. He is just thinking if he can go back to the past, when all these photos were being taken, he would do his best to get the girl back.

And of course, for a drama, he can go back to the time when the photos were being taken, and he did change something. However, the result is still the same. But what's making a wonderful story, is what he did at the end.

Although he travels back time, he finally realise, people can't rely on time traveling in order to get a better result for everything, the most important is what we do NOW. He chooses to work harder in the present; to do something for the future which won't make him regret: he said his feelings out in his speech in the wedding.

It always has an impact for being sincere. His speech touches the girl. Although he hasn't asked her for anything, he just leaves after his speech. However, he has done his best now and that is all he can do. The ending is an open ending, the girl runs out of the church...

The moral behind the scene is, from my point of interpretation, is to do your best when you are having the chance, don't make yourself regret in the future.

However, a very lovely and sweet drama, brings the moral through a pure love story, very touching indeed ='[

Time travel!?

"Time travel is the concept of moving between different points in time in a manner analogous to moving between different points in space, either sending objects (or in some cases just information) backwards in time to some moment before the present, or sending objects forward from the present to the future without the need to experience the intervening period (at least not at the normal rate)." From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The idea of travelling forward into the future or back into the past has always fascinated science fiction writers. The 'grandfather paradox' is the argument many people use to suggest that time travel is impossible. What if you went back in time and prevented your grandfather from meeting your grandmother so that your mother was never born? Then you would never have been born... and so on." TIME TRAVEL,  Shaping the Future,  by Neil Johnson, bbc.co.uk

Imagine you build a time machine. You travel back in time, meet your grandfather before he produces any children and then you kill him. Therefore, you would have never been born and the time machine would have never been built, hence the paradox.

There is a theory for time travel:
假設時間是一條數線
Suppose time is a line
而時間一直在進行

and this timeline keeps going
如果用某種機器打開蟲洞

If some machines can operate the Wormhole*
也就是說

That means
讓時間線對折

By bending this timeline
讓現在的時間點和過去的時間點接觸

Letting the point of the present and the point of the past intersect
就可以回到過去

Then we can travel back to the past
但是回到過去千萬要小心
But you have to be careful when you got back
不要改寫歷史
Don't change everything in the past or re-write the history
不然等你回到現在時

Otherwise when you get back to the present
會發現跟以前不一樣

Things won't be the same as before
而不一定能到未來

You don't necessary can go to the future
因為未來還沒發生

Because the future hasn't been written
有千萬種可能性

There are billion of possibilities
除非未來的人來到現在

Unless the people from the future come to the present
因為對未來的人來說

It is because to them
我們是過去

We are the past

*Einstein suggested, a wormhole is a hypothetical topological feature of spacetime that would be, fundamentally, a "shortcut" through spacetime.

OK, I'd better stop investigating time travel in the physics aspect, perhaps I will read more about it later if necessary hahaha

However, I found this topic is extremely arousing, it's like something impossible going to be possible, but at this stage we can imagine and estimate before the actual real theory is being proved.

So magical.

Secret*

Another good film about time traveling, Taiwan:

Follow the notes upon the journey
At first sight marks one's destiny
Once the voyage comes to an end
Return lies within hasty keys...

I wish I had it

It's called 隨意門, (no english name I am afraid :S) It's a door can bring you to anytime anywhere.

It's one of the talismans from Doraemon, the famous classic Japanese manga and cartoon:

awwwww memory =]

Doraemon From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wouldn't it be convenient if I had it? I don't have to travel on any transports; don't have to worry about being late; don't need to pay for travel expenses.....and the most amazing thing is, I can get to ANY space I like, at anytime, wow a time traveler!?

The 1st time//Confusions

Guess who they are?
Yes it's the first time they are here in the country (despite the fact that I have been studying here for 7 years lol) and, they finally come to visit me!

It is lovely to be with parents in London, because I never see my family in this place. Since I came to England to study, my mind categorizes this country to be a 'working and studying space', and I only see friends here all along, no family, not anything related to home and family, although most of my friends are Chinese, and the Chinese culture is being respected here in England, I still think this country is a space for me to work, I don't really see it as a home.

When my mum and brother came to this country with me in September, I had a very strange feeling, somehow I couldn't match the people and the space together; and I couldn't figure out myself as well. I have a completely diverse character in this country, I don't act as a child as I do in HK; I have to do everything by myself; I have to be strong and talented in order to take care myself and the others; but at home, especially my parents are there, I am always their little daughter, I don't have to worry about food, I don't have to do the laundry by myself, and so on. In the other words, in my mind, UK = on my own, strong, adult, able to handle everything; HK = a child, well cared, rely on parents. Therefore, when my family came here, I just can't get things right; can't get a balance; everything isn't correct. Things are coming up to me when they weren't supposed happening in this place.

However, before this September, I did see my family present in the UK several times in the past few years, well, in my dreams they did. Everyone has different concepts and ideas about spaces and people I believe, perhaps my mind is strange, it doesn't work well enough in relating people and places, and something I must mention, I AM CONFUSED BY DREAMS. I am always not so sure about truths and dreams. It is interesting. I just discovered that in the past few years. It might be because my mind is trying to memoerise and analyst so much, even far more than it can possibly bear with.

Argh i hate this!!!!!

I am confused!!!!!

Life is confusing me!!!!!

Now I just wanna treat my parents as good as I can in here, as they aren't familiar with the country but I am, and it's my responsibility to take care them and show them around. See! Everything turns around! I don't usually do that with them, my mind can't load helpppppppppppppp!! I am with family but I need to go to school, these 2 things don't go together!! I am in the situation which is extremely difficult for me to find a good way to deal with. It's hard, for me.

yeayeayea man I hate confusions as well!!!!!!!!!

Fantasy//Fantastic ideas

Best film of the year
This is my favourite film in the year, a film that I would very much like to spend couples of 2 hours to watch it again and again. The concept, structure, arrangement, setting, cast and everything are just simply fantastic, it is because it brings up a new subject (subconscious) exhaustively, completely innovative and imaginative; it is a subject that is very deep and debatable, there should be million, or maybe more than that, of discussions and thoughts under this concept, by different people from different societies; simultaneously some new theories or conceptions might be developed and proved after this creative fantasy!

Firstly, I would like to share my adorations <3 to him...
A professional and talented actor determines the impacts of the drama. Leo did not just a good job. The concept of the movie isn't easy to understand I believe, but all the actors and actresses had to do an extra job beyond understanding the concept and script: present the core idea fully on screen. Especially for the main character, Leo has to lead the team into the scene of the crime; as well as getting the audiences into his subconscious world. These two scenes are diverse, in the scene of the crime that Leo 'works' in, he is being a confident and professional secrets stealer; on the other hand in his subconscious, he just couldn't control himself and his dead wife, she just keeps appearing and ruins his plan, but he just can't get himself out from it. With all these contradictions going around, it must be very challenging for an actor to interpret, but however, I do think Leo has completed the job beautifully; and dragged me into the scene of crime for 2 hours in the cinema, with my hands holding tight...

An Idea
It is interesting that one of the trailers mentions:
What is the most resilient parasite?
An idea.
A single idea from the human mind can build cities.
An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.
This is very important. We must believe in ideas, especially when we are designers. Things will come true eventually if you try hard to make it come true, so, be imaginative! Maybe it's hard in real life, but there is definitely more spaces for imaginations to happen and grow, and allows them to come true in dreams...

Dreams...
I love the ideas of the layers of dream in the movie. They can dream in dream in dream...up to 4 layers. (I remember that I used to dream within a dream, haha, that means my ability could only reach down to the 2nd layer...)

Dreaming is pushing the evolution of all the hidden and unhidden imaginations to the maximum -- a space that allows you to be absolutely creative. Inception has shown us the possibilities. Everything happened in the film cannot be done in real life, but the team actually played it and 'made it true' to the world; and people would embrace all these, (including myself) it is just because, it is a dream! Although some plots aren't making full sense, (or maybe I don't understand it enough!)I won't challenge, as the writers and designers must have thought that for a thousand nights and the key point is, again, the dream! You see the impossibilities in your dream, then why not in the others' dreams?

Dreams and dramatic. Some people choose to believe in and rely on them, some just don't. People can't explain why they have dreamed that dream, but it just happened. To me, I can't control dreams, perhaps I am not creative and imaginative enough(!?) But I would memorise the fantasies: one day in the future they will pop up to me again and do something special.....

However, this movie prompts an 'inception' in my mind; a topic that I could investigate for my final year project. Dreams...

Not finished yet!
to be continued...

Choosing and Using PAPER for great graphic design// Mark Hampshire + Keith Stephenson
Plastic// Edited by Cristian Campos

That's all I have got. 3 books only £22 lol amazing!
I started to have an insight of what I wanted to do for my final project (I hope..)
I like little graphic handcrafts, basically, hand made stuff.
Graphics will be just too boring, but will be more fun with some hand drawings, makings and other things!
The Paper book lists sorts of paper work and tutorials, it is pretty helpful if you are stuck in the middle of making your final outcome for your project!

Now I know what kind of design I am interested in the most, and the next step will be thinking of themes and topics that I would love to investigate...

Um...inspirations?

1000 Graphic Elements//Wilson Harvey:London
Striking graphic designs on different objects

Oh well... I just love the image of the wood!

Went to Selfridge another day, read a book, liked it, got it.

1000 Graphic Elements, details for distinctive designs by Wilson Harvey: London
It just simply inspired me. The graphics are rich; the various design samples just demonstrate fully how graphics can be expressed on all kinds of objects. Not just on a piece of paper or card, but CD, boxes, plastic, packaging, etc.

I am sooooo amazed by the work that this book's showing. I particularly like the objects with simple design (like the card showing in the picture above, with the dead woods). I am a designer just fancies making graphics and producing lovely paper work stuff; including cards, calendars, boxes, posters. I would also like to experiment with different materials too see what makes an interesting result, and more importantly, of my unique style *o*

This book kind of gives me an insight of what kind of work I would like to do for my 3rd year of design (bomb time flies :O) I know what things inspire me -- graphical stuff.

However, as we are told to be ambitious!! I am thinking of doing something more than graphics..maybe graphic product design!? Does it sound good??? It does to me in this stage~ XD

"Shoes Design Description
This shoe was designed to capture ones attention by the visibly large numeric number on the side along with an initial quote on the back heel stating “Every 10 seconds…”
By creating this awareness and mystery creates a curiosity to question from viewers. Through this connection creates an interaction that allows “people wearing the shoes” to share their knowledge on AIDS awareness or to share their experience in buying these shoes while learning a few key facts on AIDS  and the story behind the captivating, real, and compelling number. These numbers also facilitate a story between separate buyers since numbers on each individual shoe signifies a different period of time to discuss in comparison..."
